“Please be aware and on the look out, we’ve have had multiple items stolen from our car and porch. Nothing of great value, but all the same things we purchased with our hard earned money including our American flag. Not sure if our house is being targeted specifically, but want our neighbors to be aware.” Zoe Stokes, Chief Jerry Stokes wife posting on a Salisbury neighborhood Crime blog on Sunday May 13th.

According to Salisbury Police sources and Zoe Stokes, the wife of the current chief of the Salisbury Police Jerry Stokes, thieves struck the Stokes’ residence at 230 W. Thomas Street and car sometime between Saturday and Sunday morning. Unspecified items were stolen from his car and from his porch including a beautiful American Flag that neighbors admired and apparently some thief coveted. 230 W. Thomas Street is in a high crime area where anything not nailed down is subject to being stolen by the city’s hordes of “transient street people”.

As for the house and car being specifically targeted our Staff believes that is unlikely. These types of car break-ins and “porch snatches” are usually the handiwork of a hit n’ quit thieves who will likely trade their “take” on the street for some heroin or “crack”. House break-ins are more likely to be the product of targeting. Example: A burglar gets wind of a gun collection in the Stokes’ residence or a Clutter Family style buried treasure map (Perhaps you read “In Cold Blood by Truman Capote) or jewelry.
