♦ Salisbury Police Department sources report that Eugene Milton Chunn, 75, living at 816 E. Franklin Street, was the victim of a homicide at his home Thursday morning.  Rowan EMS and the Salisbury Fire Department were called to the home by 911 Dispatch at 1:18 a.m. on the report that the victim suffered a cardiac arrest.  Emergency responders entered the home and determined that Mr. Chunn was deceased and that his body showed significant signs of blunt force trauma. His head, face, and upper torso showed significant bruising and swelling as if he was struck by a brick, club, or rock. Salisbury Police detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division arrived soon after and began their investigation, remaining on the scene until 7 a.m.  No information about the investigation was released in what is the first homicide inside the Salisbury city limits in 2018.

A neighbor said Mr. Chunn, a retired steel mill worker from Gary, Indiana, lived with an adult son Juan Chunn who recently moved into the house. Mr. Chunn relied on an oxygen container to breathe and was well liked in his Franklin Street neighborhood.

A neighbor said Mr. Chunn was missing some money from his home about a week ago. In early January of 2017 an arson took place in the house at 816 E. Franklin Street. The home was substantially damaged by the blaze, forcing Mr. Chunn to live elsewhere for several months. An RFP article on the arson is posted at the bottom of this article.
