Salisbury: Michael Smith Surrendered to the Salisbury Police Thursday for the Alleged January 12th Shooting of Robert Chad “Kelly” Christie

♦ Salisbury Police Department sources report that Michael Paul Smith, 45, of Hephzibah, Georgia surrendered to the Salisbury Police Thursday morning at 10:55 a.m. for the alleged January 12th shooting of Robert Chad “Kelly” Christie, 42, 1305 Julian Road, at 275 Farm House Road in Salisbury. Christie was wounded in the leg and had to be hospitalized.

Michael Paul Smith:

Smith was charged assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury (felony), discharging a firearm into an occupied building (felony), and prostitution (procure or solicit) (misdemeanor). Under a secured $10,000 bond, Smith has bonded out.

“According to Rowan County Sheriff’s Office sources a Charlotte Backpage personal ad led to an alleged prostitution hookup at 275 Farmhouse Rd. in Salisbury between Robert Chad “Kelly” Christie, 42, of 1305 Julian Rd., Salisbury, N.C. and Michael Paul Smith, 45, of Hephzibah, Georgia on January 12th. The encounter led to Smith’s alleged shooting of “Kelly” Christie in the leg and to her hospitalization.

The Victim Robert Chad “Kelly” Christie:

On Friday January 12th, Smith drove from Charlotte to Farmhouse Rd. where he met “Kelly” Christie and completed the pre-arranged sexual act. After the sexual encounter, a disagreement occurred and Smith fired multiple times at “Kelly” Christie, hitting him in the leg. A 911 dispatch went out at 9:28 p.m. and brought deputies to the house.

According to warrants Smith will be charged assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury (felony), discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling (felony), and solicitation of prostitution (misdemeanor). The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is expected to arrest Smith later this week.

Heather Gilbert Fitzgerald, 28, was charged with promotion of prostitution for profit (felony). Under a secured $5,000 bond, she is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center.

Christie remains in the Cabarrus County Jail under a prostitution charges and other outstanding Cabarrus County charges.
