♦ Those men and women who courageously walk the thin blue line never know when their “slot machine in the sky comes up all lemons”. It is a dangerous job and officers never know what the next call will send their way especially in Salisbury.

Salisbury Police sources report that Harvey Lee Gillespie, 67, of 217 N. Long Street assaulted Salisbury Police Officer J.C. Eastler, 27, on a police call to 217 N. Long Street (Rowan Helping Ministries homeless shelter and kitchen). Eastler, allegedly the victim of “assault-simple Police Officer” was shoved to the floor where he sustained minor injuries.

A second victim Aundri McKenzie, 58, living at 226 N. Long Street was involved. She was not injured.

Gillespie was arrested for allegedly assaulting the officer and communicating threats. Under a secured $3,000 bond, Gillespie is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center.
