Salisbury: Deputies Arrest Pair Thursday on Alleged Drug Charges after Car Chase // Armed Man Grabs $90 from Elderly Woman in Aldi’s Lot

♦ According to Rowan County Sheriff’s Office sources Nathaniel Lamuel Setzer, 34, living on Bringle Ferry Road in Richfield and Zadrian Jaquae Smith, 18, 1221 Kenly Street, Salisbury were arrested at the intersection of Hurley School Road and Sherills Ford Road in Salisbury on Thursday at 7:04 a.m. on assorted drug charges after a car chase.

Deputies spotted Setzer and Smith allegedly passed out in white Mercedes in the median on Barringer Road at Hwy 70. As the deputies approached the Mercedes sped off, leading the deputies on a chase to Sherills Ford Road. At times the Mercedes reached speeds of 70 mph.

The chase finally ended when the Mercedes brought to a halt with stop sticks. Setzer the driver and his passenger Smith were arrested, handcuffed, and taken into custody.

A search of the Mercedes allegedly found an ounce of marijuana, meth, heroin, suboxone, $1,311 in cash, scales, and plastic baggies

Under a secured $50,000 bond, Setzer is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center.

Zadrian Jaquae Smith:

Smith was charged with possession of schedule VI (felony), possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule VI (felony), and possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor).

Smith, under a secured $3,500 bond, was held in the Rowan County Detention Center prior to his release on bail.

♦ According to Salisbury Police sources report Mildred Rowe, 88, of 11th Street in Spencer. was the victim of an armed robbery in the parking lot at Aldi, 115  S. Avalon Drive just off Faith Road Friday around 9:30 a.m. The woman, just after parking her car, started toward Aldi’s entrance when she was confronted by a white male who threatened her with a pistol (it’s unclear if he actually had one) and told her he wanted her pocketbook.

The robber snatched the purse and got into an older model light green Saturn with a white male driver before speeding off toward Faith Road.

The pocketbook contained the woman’s keys, a wallet cards, $90 in cash, and personal checks (not endorsed).  Although uninjured, the woman appeared shaken by the experience.

Salisbury Police and Rowan County Sheriff’s Office vehicles arrived quickly.  At this time no arrests have been made or suspects named.
