♦ According to Rowan County Sheriff’s Office sources Rodney Hardin, 38, of 2501 Wind Swept Way in Rockwell and James Sapp, 29, living on Johnson Dairy Road in Rockwell, were victims of “assault-gun” and “vandalism” on Friday evening at 2501 Wind Swept Way.

Hardin, the homeowner, and Sapp, a roofer working on the house, were present when 3 men drove up, wanting to check out vehicles for sale in Hardin’s backyard. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary at first as Hardin showed the 3 strangers around and Sapp offered the visitors bottled water from his roofing truck. Abruptly one of the visitors drew a handgun and demanded money. Several shots were fired before the visitors took off in an older blue 4-door Hyundai.

The attempted robbery and shooting was called into 911 dispatch at 9:03 p.m. Rowan County Sheriff’s Office deputies were quickly on the scene. Neither Hardin or Sapp were struck by bullets, but a 1997 Dodge Ram truck was. The damage to the vehicle was assessed at $500.

The three robbers were described as a red haired white male about 6″1′, a heavyset Black male sporting short dreds, and a white male about 5″8′ and 150 lbs.

The case remains under investigation. No suspects have been named.
