♦ According to neighbors and sources in the Salisbury Police Department Myron Levonte Riley, 17, of Melrose Street in Salisbury and a Salisbury High Student was shot in the back today during an escalating backyard argument between several young men in the 100 block of Ridge Avenue near S. Fulton Street.  Riley ran to the Mean Mug Coffee Shop at 1024 S. Fulton where he sought help. According to neighbors Riley said: “Call 911! Call 911! Lock the Door!” The owner of the Mean Mug recognized Riley as a sometime customer and sought emergency help for him. A 911 call went out earlier at 12:46 p.m. in reference to shots fired in the area.

Location of Ridge Avenue and S. Fulton in Salisbury, N.C.:

Riley was transported to Novant Rowan Regional Medical Center then transferred by EMS to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem for further treatment. His wound is said to be not life threatening.

Soon Salisbury Police poured into the area.  Nearby a daycare, Salisbury High School, and Livingstone College were placed on precautionary Code Yellow Lockdown due to police activity in the Fulton Heights.

Fulton Heights has become a fairly dangerous area especially along S. Fulton and Lincolnton Road. Muggings and street holdups are frequent. Students, walking home from Salisbury High, have been beaten and robbed. A daylight shooting comes as no surprise. People are leaving this gentrified area when they can sell their houses. Of course safety is a major issue all over the Salisbury.

The case remains under intense investigation.

Citizens having any knowledge about this crime are urged to call the Salisbury Police at 704-638-5333. If you fear retribution, want to remain anonymous and possibly collect a reward of up to $1,000, information can be submitted 24/7 via the web: http://tips.salisburyrowancrimestoppers.org/ or by calling the Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
