♦ In the city hunkering down in fear because of the runaway violent crime, shootings, 16 unsolved murders, and frequent sirens and gunshots, our roving crime reporter and videographer Todd Paris was drawn to the sound of sirens at 1000 Freeland Drive at 8:15 p.m. where an arrest was being made on a “jump and run” by Papa John’s Pizza and Murphy’s Express.

Todd pulled up on all the flashing lights and was just in time to see Salisbury felon Kevin Lamont Hayes, 40, of 1209 S. Railroad Street, being arrested and boxes of “strange cargo” allegedly being removed from the rear of Hayes’s vehicle.

Kevin Lamont Hayes:

According to Salisbury Police sources, officers were conducting a traffic stop allegedly due to fictitious tags on Hayes’s vehicle when they pulled him over at 1000 Freeland Drive and S. Arlington Street. Mr. Hayes allegedly took flight from his vehicle and led officers on a short foot pursuit before they overtook him and put him in handcuffs. Hayes was brought to an awaiting police car where he watched officers remove two boxes from the rear of his vehicle.
