♦ Burglaries, forcible entries, and vehicle break-ins mount in Salisbury. Neighborhoods throughout the city are wilting from non-stop property crime. Even vacant and abandoned houses, said be around 2,900 in number, are subject to an army of “scrappers” hauling away copper tubing, PVC pipes, metal gutters and downspouts, electric and water meters, electric boxes, and other valuable construction materials. In an hour or less a home or a commercial building can be stripped. Nothing like coming home to your castle and finding the light switch and sink are connected to neither electricity or water. Such is life in the Bury. The pirates have taken over the ship.

According to sources in the Salisbury Police, Helen Leslie, 90, was victimized by a burglary–forcible entry at her home on the 600 block of Sunset Drive. A burglar took a brick or a rock to a window to gain entry into home. The burglary was reported at 8:30 p.m. Mercifully the elderly woman was not home alone at the time. The burglar helped himself to Masonic rings, pendants, a jewelry box, and Sentry safe whose total estimated value was estimated at $650. The damaged window, used as an entry and exit point, was valued at $500.
