♦ As we’ve warned many times previously during the holidays an increased risk of purse snatchings, strong arm robberies, and armed robberies exists in Salisbury.  In shopping area parking lots, in the side streets and parking lots of Downtown Salisbury, and by outdoor ATMs or near banks assaults are most likely to occur.  It is also wise to be extremely alert and aware when on the campus of Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.  In recent months there has been a rise in purse snatchings and robberies in the hospital’s less secure areas.  Visitors and patients are prime targets because they bring money, credit cards, IDs, and pocketbooks to the hospital.

According to Salisbury Police sources officers were called Saturday at 9:06 p.m. to the Novant Health Rowan Medical Center where Ms. Crystal Lanning, 36, of Weant Street in East Spencer was reported to be a victim of larceny all other and assault–simple physical.  Ms. Lanning was assaulted for her pocketbook.  Lost to the thief was her pocketbook, LG smart phone, wallet, make-up bag and its contents, and a stun gun.  Her estimated losses were said to be $175.  Roughed up during the encounter, she luckily sustained no injuries.
