♦ Thursday just after 1 a.m. Salisbury Police were called to the Lakewood Apartment Homes on Lakewood Drive in Salisbury on the report of a shootout between two rival factions of young Black men.  Residents hunkered down in their apartments as between 10 and 15 shots were heard outside and muzzle flashes could be seen in the dark by those who dared to look outside.  The shooters scattered as police vehicles began to pour into the area.  Some left in vehicles–others melted away into the apartment complex.  It was confirmed later this morning that someone fired on arriving police from the general vicinity of the 800 building and officers responded with their own fire.  Allegedly no one was hit.  The shooter was described as a balding Black man wearing a white dress shirt.

Officers questioned a man who carried a shotgun for home protection and let him go.  They determined he was not involved in the dispute.

No one was reported wounded however it might be learned later if someone shows up in a Rowan or Cabarrus County emergency room with gunshot wounds.

Three apartment units were said to be damaged by stray bullets from the shootout.

At this times no arrests, suspects, and no motives for the shooting were disclosed.  The shootings remain under investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooters should call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
