♦ Witt Darnell Alexander, 23, a convicted felon living on the streets of Salisbury, was arrested Tuesday for an alleged armed robbery of an 18 year-old female student from Columbia, S.C.  The woman was lured by a Craigslist ad to purchase a cell phone at an apartment complex on 211 S. Link Avenue in Salisbury.   The woman allegedly met Alexander outside the Link Street complex and waited in her car while Alexander went inside an apartment to bring out several cell phones for her examination. After several trips back and forth between the car and the apartment, Alexander returned a final time, allegedly holding a handgun in the woman’s  face.   She gave up a Samsung Edge cellphone valued at $300 and $108 in cash. Alexander quickly hurried out of the area on foot.

The Apartment Complex on 211 South Link Avenue:

Shaken by the event, the woman had the presence of mind to call the police and meet them at the Speed Stop on West Innes Street where she allegedly described the gunman as having dreads with blond tips. Soon arriving officers fanned out in the area and spotted a suspect fitting the alleged robbers description. Alexander ran into the street forcing two vehicles to hit their brakes to avoid hitting him. Confused, the suspect fled in the direction of a wooded area on the 200 block of Roy Street. Officers warned Alexander if he didn’t come out they would send in a K-9. Alexander soon emerged and quietly surrendered. Officers inspecting the wooded area located the Samsung Edge cellphone.

Alexander was charged with robbery with firearms and other dangerous weapons (felony). Under a secured $25,000 bond, he is being held at the Rowan County Detention Center.
